Another Tentative Trucking Deal Reached

Steelworkers- IWA local 1-424 Chief ,Frank Everitt, is optimistic a deal can be reached with the forest companies in both Burns Lake and Smithers in the coming days.
Everitt is in Burns Lake to begin negotiations with the companies of the region. He also hopes to be able to see a contract put together in Smithers following a pattern established in Prince George when Canfor's contractors struck a tentative deal. That package is expected to be ratified within a few days.
The union, which has been acting as a bargaining agent for the truckers, already has agreements in place with Winton Global and Lakeland Mills.
In the tentative deal reached today with Canfor the Steelworkers are recognized as the agent for the truckers in future negotiations. The agreement calls for future wage increases, and a priority list for recall of truckers once they are laid off
