Second Session of John School Today

Today marks the start of the second semester of "John School".  It is officially called the Adult Diversion Program and is open only to those who were arrested for allegedly committing an offence under the criminal code (soliciting for the purposes of prostitution) and who have no previous record of sexual or other assaults against women.

The  suspects can  take the class rather than  head to court.

Based on similar models of programs already being successfully delivered in cities like Vancouver, Winnipeg and Edmonton,  the participants are less likely to re-offend.  Stats show of the 1175 clients who have taken part in this kind of program in other cities, only 5 had re-offended.

The program  costs each participant $500 dollars.  The all day session exposes the "student" to information about  the implications of buying sex including the health and legal risks,  the costs to themselves and others, the degradation and abuse of sex trade workers, and the role of pimps and organized crime.

The first session of this program was offered earlier in the summer, following sting operations conducted by Prince George RCMP.

How do you degrade a hooker, she or he is as low as you can get. Sex trade worke..they are Hookers. NO JOHN SCHOOL...PUT THEIR PICTURES IN THE PAPER AND ON OPINION 250.As well put the hookers and pimps pictures in paper along with the list of their Known diseases.
How does this story differ with the way the City of Prince George is being treated by certain people and businesses. Who is the john , who is the prostitute and who is the pimp?
Maybe Don could assist by going to the school and taking pictures of the John's as they attend classes?? Then submit them on the computer.
Bet that is an invasion of privacy!
Time he woke up and realized-there would be no hookers if the guys were not willing to pay them for their services.
Seems the pimps are all men also.
The guys seem to be the cause of the prostitution problem.
So stay home fellows, and save your money and stay out of trouble.
Are the wives notified you are obliged to attend classes for your indiscretion.
Bet she is pretty ticked over the $500.00 tuition!
Or whatever.
Trusted...Lots of Pimps are women, Women use escort services also, so not all johns are men.
Not in this city!
Where do you live?
Better be ready to give some examples-other than talk.
I bet there are no women in John school!
Do you actually know from experience? or are you just speeching us again?
Just curious.
If every time someone did something stupid, they had their pic in the paper.... I am guessing Don would have his pic in daily.....LOL
Once again **Shooting from the Lip** This so-called problem has been around for thousands of years, and Don can solve it in a New York Minute. Isnt that grande.

High class Hookers, Pimps, and Johns never get caught up in this B.S. because they do not work the streets, and are not subject to **Stings**

When Prince George solves this problem they can go on World Wide T.V. and let everyone know how they did it. In the meantime it will continue with a new batch of Johns, and the ones who got caught will not get caught again.

With the New Gaming hall downtown, and the Casino at 16 and 97 going full tilt I doubt if there will be much money left for the protitutes. Between the Government, the City, and Casino owners taking out in excess of 35 Million a year it will be slim pickens for a hooker.
Seems to be an awful lot of fuss over a couple people banging bottoms?
Screwing should be legalized, taxed and inspected.
We so easily forget that the laws in Canada regarding prostitution are intersting.

1. Prostitution is not illegal. So, the act of having sex between consenting adults for money is not illegal.

2. Keeping a "common bawdy house" is illegal. Having sex for money in private is not illegal.

3. Solicitation in "public" is illegal. Negotiating for dollars someplace private is not illegal.

Escort and similar services are advertised throughout Canada in the local telephone books. Is it any wonder that there is so much "success" in the John program? I suspect most simply find the legal way to carry on this business.

I wonder if there are really people in Prince George who are looking for someone to escort them to the Symphony, call up an escort service listed in the yellow pages, and negotiate an evening out at North 54, the Symphony, an after Symphony get together with friends at Moxie's, and then returning the escort back home.

;-)
Prostitution is market driven - demand and supply. The typical prositute is not out there voluntarily SHE is forced by a pimp, driven by addiction and desperation. The typical john is married with children who for some reason has a need to self destruct. The infamous Judge Ramsey is a good example.

I used to live near the corner of 17th and Queensway and watched this business take place out my window. Sunday mornings were a real eye opener. The John's would show up just after dropping the wife and kids off at church. When you look closely at the prositutes you realize that these are very young women (mostly teenagers) who have already lived through more heartache than we can imagine.

Good on the RCMP for putting these guys in a room and telling them just what their behaviour costs. Outside of the costs to the prositute and the John and his family is the costs to the neighbourhood. The families who live in these areas do so because of financial reasons and they have to put up with Johns cruising by soliciting their children, the risk that young girls may get lured by some sleazy pimp, condoms and needles on the playgrounds. This is not an activity just between 2 consenting adults, it has a real negative effect on the area it takes place.
Trusted...Where I work I meet hookers and pimps. 3 of the pimps have been women. I have been asked by traveling women..WHAT IS THE BEST ESCORT SERVICE IN TOWN? Quess they needed a date for the movies.(before Marty says anything..I tell them I am not a pimp and to F-off) I can not fix the problem in a new york minute, but I bet with pictures of johns, hooker, pimps, and their known diseases,in papers.. A lot less people would be out cruising
I am amazed at how Don knows everyone's choice of employment. Guess they come up to him and say,"Hey come, come, look, and see--I am a pimp-or I am a hooker- or I am an escort-or I am a John. and I have a known disease called ???
I am sure they all appreciate your courtesy in replying to them.
Honestly, prostitution is the oldest profession in the world. They will always be there-as long as payment will be made-and it is not based on "supply and demand" as anniemartin states.
Many marriages are actually saved when the wife says "no more" but the guy can go pay $100.00 and get his satisfaction elsewhere. The wife would probably even slip him the 100 bucks just to be left alone. Not everyone wants to split up a home and divide assets over a "roll in the hay." Many couples are basically happy with one another in the everyday living part of their co existence.
Prostitution should be legalized, and taxed, and medically overseen to safeguard against the transmission of diseases, and the safety factor is also taken care of.
Problem solved.
If society is too damned stupid to understand this-then we will have the women roaming the
streets, the guys seeking them out, disease, the prostitutes being beaten and abused- Johns being rolled and attending classes- and the ridiculous just goes on and on.
Safe houses are the answer-but when will the public wake up to that fact?
Trusted...Come down hang out for a week..You will be surprised what people tell you.
Prostitution is NOT the oldest profession in the world. Begging is. Someone had to ask!
Read the Bible!
Guess there are some that know very little-if anything.
Sad but true.
