Prince George Mayor Colin Kinsley told a packed Council he had a personal link with the events of 9-11 in 2001. "Two of my colleagues on the Municipal Finance Authority were in New York  at the World Trade Centre planning meetings" Kinsley was supposed to attend those sessions.  "I got a call at 6:00 that morning telling me the meetings were off".

The Mayor was overcome with emotion as he talked about the events of that day and asked all in the gallery to think about the freedom we enjoy in Canada and the role that Canada plays in peacekeeping. "The world has also changed for Canadians" said the Mayor as a tremor shook his voice "for now, for the first time in many many years, in fact decades,  we have young Canadian men and women dying overseas."

With that, he asked the Gallery to observe a moment of silence te remember the 2800 peopoe who died at the World Trade Centres, the Pentagon, and in the downed flight in Pennsylvania.

These events do effect us all. Thank you Mayor Kinsley for showing respect for those whose lives were lost. We are all in this together.

The way of life we enjoy is under attack, like it or not. We need to be aware of the fact that we are all affected by these terrible acts of terrorism.

And we whine about new land development affecting our greenbelt next door? Chester
And they are not there by choice mr kinsley!
Nor do they want to be....
and they will not speak out against it for fear of goverment retaliation on them...
I agree Chester - it's a whole new world for Canadians. The attack on the World Trade Towers was not just an attack on America. I think younger Canadians see our role in the world as one of peace keeping and diplomacy. The problem with that is that the fanatics don’t see us that way. They see us as an arm of the USA and what happened in New York, Bali and London can happen in Canada. I just hope that we are all ready for that.
