Today Quesnel, tomorrow, Prince George.

That's the schedule for the job fair aimed at linking people with skills to jobs in the oil and gas industry.

The Assistant Deputy Minister for the Ministry of Mines, Petroleum and Natural gas is Doug Caull.  He says since the job fair started in mid September, 1900 people have attended the sessions held in eight different communities.

Caull says  the  oil and gas industry needs all kinds of  skilled people, from accountants to cooks,  heavy duty mechanics to engineers.  "The fairs are a way to make sure everyone in the province is aware of the opportunities" says Caull.

The  job fair is in Quesnel today at the Seniors Centre from 9:30 this morning to 3:30 this afternoon.

Tomorrow and Friday, the fair will be in Prince George at the Civic Centre from 9:30 to 3:30

The fairs present an opportunity for interested people to find out what jobs are in demand, the skills needed to land those jobs,  and educational / training opportunities.

The companies taking part:

  • BJ Services Co
  • CE Franklin
  • Canadian Natural Resources Limited
  • Ensign Energy
  • Impact Drilling\Macenna Staffing Services
  • Nabors Drilling
  • Normandeau Rentals
  • Northern Society Oilfield Contractors

Caull says people  who come to the job fairs usually pose the same questions:

  • What are the opportunities?
  • What kind of training is needed?
  • What are the salaries?

Caull says companies taking part in the  fairs have  received 1200 resumes and applications so far.
