Rarely has an opportunity arisen that allows for the rank and file of the region to become involved in making suggestions to shape the future of the region.

A series of such meetings will take place on November 4th and 5th at the College of New Caledonia.

It will be a grass roots look at what is viewed as the total picture of the mountain pine beetle infestation, what we can expect by way of the economy and finally it will hear, hopefully from people like you, as to what we can do to offset the effects of the beetle down the road.

We think  the two day meetings are so important, that we at Opinion 250 have put up a door prize of a 20 inch flat screen colour TV with a DVD player, just to have you register.

It will take the efforts of everyone, to seek a way out of the problems that we will face when the wood to fuel our industries is no longer available.

Each individual who lives in this community and believes in it, has some ideas as to what might be tried to offset the devastating effect of the loss of our timber. CNC is putting on a free lunch as a means of attracting people to the two day event, and a host of speakers have been lined up.

Over the past few years we have been told there are major problems in the woods as the fiber that fuels this region is rapidly disappearing.

What do we need to do to keep our livelihood and way of life flowing?

Is the future in government projects,  such as the new sports center? Is value added the area in which we need to move to or are we simply going to lay down and take our lumps?

We tackled the health care problems by a massive turn out at the multiplex.  We need that sort of input once more.

You can register by just hitting on the "Stand Up For the North" ad on this site, and then registering with CNC’s Peter Ewart.

The community needs the input of not just the politicians but every single individual, who works, lives and plays in this region.

It needs YOUR input.

I’m Meisner and that is one man’s opinion.

Move the CN Rail tracks out of the downtown water front and off the Nechako river. Then support eco-tourism and river front oportunities for community livability and tourism. Then utilze the power station at Salmon Valley(existing infrastructure originally built for an aluminum smelter) to locate an industrial park between there and Bear Lake for a container port.

Focus on eco-tourism as well as shipping and export assembly oportunities. Everything else will be market driven.
