The Province thinks it has come up with a funding formula that will see all communities paying a fair share for policing.
Right now, urban residents pay 70 - 100 percent of police costs. Rural residents pay just a fraction of that amount.
The new formula will see smaller rural communities pay 20-40 % of the cost to police their areas and they will be able to collect revenue from traffic fines to help pay the bill.
The new formula based on assessed value and population, is to take effect in January, it will recover about $25 million dollars of the $60-$65 million it costs the Province to police communities with fewer than 5,000 residents.
