A single vehicle crash in Quesnel has claimed the life of a man.

Quesnel RCMP say  a dodge pickup was northwest bound on Quesnel Hydraulic Road this morning and went out of control in a right hand curve.  The truck went into the ditch and rolled.

Police say it appears the driver (the lone occupant in the vehicle) was not wearing his seatbelt and he was ejected from the cab of the truck.  He was transported to GR Baker Hospital  where he was ponounced dead.

The victims name has not been released.

Police say the road was icy at the time of the crash.

If the government and road maintenance contractors would use salt and sand instead of the calcium mixture they use this accident and many others would probably not happen in the first place.

This wonder mixture they use was banned in Ontario because it is so dangerous. It creates a layer of slime under the wet and Ice that is deadly. It attracts moisture so the road is always dangerous. Remember if it looks wet it is not a good sign, looks are deceiving.

They do use sand/salt around the city of PG - the salt comes in by the train load from Saskatchewan to the CN switch yard off 1st avenue. It gets mixed with sand from Kode Sand & Gravel.
The mixed sand/salt gets trucked to quite a few outlying communities, as well as within PG - not sure what Quesnel uses.
In most cases it is better to wear the seatbelt that came installed in the vehicle - it takes only a second to put it on and it may save one's life if it keeps one from being ejected from the vehicle.

Even in the summer on dry roads some people miss a curve and get killed because they refuse to use the safety equipment that is mandatory now in most countries.

Sad. Probably a needless death, according to the accident report.

My condolences to the family.
