Bob Martin and Downtown Prince George Executive Director Janet Morris-Reade, show off completed snowflake light fixture

Downtown Prince George is  welcoming the season with additions to the downtown light up display.  It has been a  full community event.

It was an idea brought forth by former City Councilor Bob Martin last January and Downtown Prince George  ran with it.

Welding students at CNC  designed and made the snowflake frames,  local businesses helped find the right materials and many donated materials, or provided them at cost and staff from the City of Prince George offered technical expertise and hands on support.

Kids from  the Future Cents Youth, along with City of Prince George Utilities workers and community volunteers are now putting the rope lighting on the  powdercoated snowflake frames that will replace the  banners currently hanging from the light fixtures on Third Avenue.

It's been an amazing project.  Downtown Prince George Executive Director Janet Morris-Reade says  the level of support  from all areas of the community has been wonderful.  and the snowflakes will give Third Avenue a winter WOW factor for  less than $7,000.  That is a fraction of what it would have cost if the snowflakes had been purchased on the commercial market.

Future Cents is a not for profit organization that provides programs designed to help at-risk youth overcome the barriers.  Future Cents hires at-risk/high risk youth who are working  toward leading healthy lives, and helps them acquire the skills, experience and information they need to prepare them for employment.

excellent program - more streets next year?
Very nice! Everyone wins!
Nice and bright.

Hopefully they will mount them so that they face the car traffic in exactly this fashion. Last year the stars on 3rd were mounted so that the edge faced traffic and, with the bluish lights used, they were not very visible driving or walking down the street.

I commend the organizers for this initiative.

Thank you for involving so many people. As the lights bring a little hope to a dismal night, may the people involved also bring a little light into the lives of those downtown who need it.

This effort is a very nice attempt to raise everyone's spirits. Thank you. Chester
