The Houston Health Centre will be open three times longer on the weekends effective today.

The new weekend hours  will offer service for 12 hours a day, up from the current four.  The change  has been made possible  through the hiring of extra staff.

Starting today, the health centre will operate from 8:30 in the morning until 8:30 at night on the weekends. Northern Health  is advertising  job positions for the staff needed to provide 24 hour a day emergency service at the health centre.

Health Services Administrator Andrew McLetchie says there are efforts to  expand service further “We are making good progress in adding new hours, and will keep Houston residents informed about further increases in care hours as they happen.”

This is the third increase in service hours at the Houston Health centre.  The first increase took place in the fall of 2002 when  Monday to Friday service was expanded from 8 hours  to 12 hours a day, then  weekend service was added in May of 2004.
