Former UNBC Professor, Dr. Alex Michalos, has been elected the next Chancellor
Dr. Michalos will replace Peter Bentley as Chancellor at the UNBC’s Convocation ceremony on May 25th.
In making the announcement, the University’s President, Don Cozzetto, says, "Today is a day of welcoming Alex, while giving heartfelt thanks to Peter Bentley for his unwavering service to UNBC."
"It is not exaggeration to say that UNBC would not be where it is today without Peter’s support and commitment." But Cozzetto sees a bright future with the Chancellor-elect, "UNBC is entering an exciting phase of its development and Alex’s knowledge of UNBC and its strengths will be of tremendous value."
For his part, Michalos says, "I am truly humbled to have been elected as Chancellor, and I particularly want to commend Peter Bentley for his incredible service to UNBC since the University’s earliest days."
"I am looking forward to working with everyone to realize a bright future for this great university."
In 2004, Michalos was the recipient of the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada’s highest honour for research achievement. His ground-breaking work on measuring peoples’ quality of life has led to invitations from governments and institutions around the world to present on how to improve the quality of life of all citizens.
Michalos is set to serve a three-year term. Alumni, faculty, members of the UNBC Senate, and some founders were eligible to cast ballots.
Iono Campagnolo and George Pederson have also served as Chancellors of UNBC.
