Northern Health Finances In Good Shape

Northern Health finished off 2006 with a modest surplus of $2.82 million dollars which is about 1/2 of one percent of the annual budget.

The Health Authority says the balance is the result of increased funding from the Ministry for emergency room decongestion and joint replacements offset by increased activity in inpatient and ALC days. In particular, there were higher costs for drugs and surgical supplies.
The fiscal year is expected to end with a surplus of $2 million dollars.

YIPEE !! A SURPLUS..
LETS FINANCE A STUDY TO SEE WHERE WE CAN SPEND THIS MONEY.THAT IS, IF THERE IS ANY LEFT AFTER THE STUDY.
A budget surplus?? Wow!!! Extra funds for "emergency decongestion." Yeah! So why are they still having "CODE GRIDLOCK' up to 3 or 4 a day at PGRH? Why were there 4 cardiac arrests in the emergency waiting room last year?
Quite possible that administration thinks that decongestion in this context means a bottle (small) of nasal spray!
Just goes to prove that in the Great Canadian Mythical Care, a patient looks like this:

$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

So, the fewer you have of them darned patients, the greater the Holy Surplus!!
