Coroner's Jury Deliberating
By 250 News
The Coroner’s jury has started its deliberations in the shooting death of Kevin St. Arnaud. They have to make a ruling on the cause of death, and may make recommendations to the Coroner’s office to prevent a recurrence of this sort of event.
Kevin’s death must be categorized under one of the following five causes:
Natural causes, accidental death, suicide, homicide or undetermined.
Earlier the family of St Arnaud tried to enter some recommendations but the Coroner, Shane De Meyer, ruled that was not possible under his guidelines and their recommendations were filed for information only.
The lawyer for the RCMP and the lawyer for the Coroner’s office argued against allowing the recommendations to be heard.
St. Arnaud was shot three times in a soccer field in Vanderhoof in the early hours of December 19th, 2004. The RCMP Constable who fired those shots said he did so because he feared for his life.
If the jury fails to reach a verdict by 5:30, it will return on Monday to continue its deliberations.
