RCMP in Quesnel are out with a warning, after a woman may have had some sort of drug slipped into her drink at a licenced establishment on Friday evening.

Police say the woman had one non-alcoholic drink, when she began to experience difficulty after returning from the dance floor.  Her movement and sight were affected and, ultimately, she fainted before being taken to G.R. Baker Hospital for tests and observation.

RCMP says medical personnel informed them that the woman’s symptoms were not consistent with the date rape drug, as her heart rate was elevated not depressed, so her medical distress may have been the result of an unknown medical condition.

The results of toxicology tests are not yet in, but police are advising club-goers to be wary and not leave their drinks unattended.

This incident comes on the heels of a particularly disturbing situation that arose in Quesnel on Tuesday when a two-year-old child arrived at hospital and was found to be suffering from cocaine intoxication.  The child’s mother was also treated for similar symptoms.

The toddler is in protective foster care under the Ministry of Child and Family Development.  RCMP are not able to say whether the infant is still in the hospital or not, but can confirm the child is doing well.

Both the ministry and police are investigating -- the RCMP investigation is focusing on the source of the drug and how it was administered.
