Four search warrants led to four arrests over the last week in Prince Rupert.  One warrant was obtained after a house fire alerted officials to the grow op.

RCMP Constable Steve Richards says a special task force, made up of Prince Rupert detachment members, targeted local drug trafficking activities.

Constable Richards says, in one case, a member of the task force noticed a fire in a city residence and evacuated the occupants - including a one-year-old infant and two-year-old child.  The fire department discovered approximately 100 marijuana plants in the attic, while working to extinguish the blaze.  Charges of cultivation and possession for the purpose of trafficking are pending against an adult.

Three other search warrants produced large quantities of marijuana, cocaine and cash.  In each case, charges are pending against adult males.  Constable Richards says it was the second time in three months that one of the homes had been raided.  And one of the trio arrested is already facing charges for a drug investigation back in October.

What's the point of arresting these same people time and time again, with no consequences to encourage them to stop their illegal activities? Lock them up, and shut them down. What is wrong with the way we deal with this problem? Can't those involved in working in this area do something about this? Judges?? Lawyers???? Politicians???? Chester
