Dick Harris says he is pleased with the great start in appointing judges who have a more conservative thinking.
"This ’get-out-of-jail-free’ attitude in our courts has got to end, and the appointment of conservative, qualified judges is a great start," Harris says.

Harris says,  "We made a commitment to Canadians that the free ride for criminals would be over in a Conservative government and we are delivering in our commitment."

"This new move is part of our get tough on crime."   "For the past 13 years,"  the Cariboo-Prince George MP says,  "The former Liberal government had been appointing judges that aligned with the Liberal-thinking left."

We shall see,
We can hope...
but this is governement babbling now!
"Tough" must mean a little more abusive "You shouldn't do that" speeches
Judges should have to be elected, maybe then they will earn their keep.
now we will have left wing thinking judges.
Might be some of them "hangin' judges" that a lot of folk bin a waitin' fer. Hope so.
Oh gods no!
Elected judges? Dont we already have enough politicians?
"Judges should have to be elected, maybe then they will earn their keep."

You mean like Harris?
I think we need threee judges on cases rather than one. A lefty, a righty, and a reasonable person who looks at the merits of the case.

;-)

... the appointment of conservative judges.... sounds like a great recipe for patronage.
the justice system merged with the fish and wild life a long time ago.....catch and release.

we'll see if harris & co. can change this
I have certainly discovered one certainty which evolves in the courtroom.
The biggest lies told are by the lawyers.
They lie about dates, they lie about time, the lie about issues. I wonder if they are capable of truth?
The judges take the side of their colleagues, as one must remember, they are also lawyers first.
They must swear some type of allegiance towards one another initially, and it is a lasting one.
The judge is respectful towards the lawyer and attempts to intimidate the lay person.
There is no justice served in our judicial system.
It has become a total farce.
Hey, anybody ever notice when a lawyer is attacked, and rightfully so, he turns bright red from the neck up.
I knew a good one-once-but only once-and in the end he ripped me off-so am I just unlucky, or is it the way they play the game, and honesty fails to be the best policy?
There are some tough lessons out there, and an honest person trying to achieve justice has a momentous job staring them in the face.
Good guys come last!
How about just making the judges apply the law as it is written? Take away their right to interpret the law and sentences as they see fit.And make minimum sentences tougher and also make it mandatory that our judges actually impose the minimum. In short, make them do their damn job.Naw,that would make too much sense and a lot of politicians would be very nervous!Nope, elected judges is the only way to go!
