Prince George RCMP say a 27-year-old city man is in hospital in serious, but stable condition in hospital after accidentally shooting himself.

Police say emergency personnel responded to the call around 9pm last night in the Heritage neighbourhood.  Staff-Sergeant Jeff McArthur says at this point in the investigation, the single gunshot appears to have happened accidentally, the result of careless handling.

McArthur says officers at the scene seized several firearms and ammunition from the residence, along with a quantity of marijuana and cocaine.

No word on any charges at this point.  The investigation continues.

Damn!!!!!!!!!

He missed!!!!!!!
yeah, probably flinched at the last second.
This poor fellow clearly needs counselling and assistance from a sympathetic mental health practitioner.

I sure hope he gets his marijuana and cocaine back.
RIGHT ON RUNNER46..
TOO BAD WE HAVE TO WASTE MONEY ON S-IT HEADS INSTEAD OF REAL GOOD PEOPLE WHO REALLY NEED THE HEALTH CARE.THE HOUSE SHOULD BE SEIZED,SOLD AND MONEY GIVEN TO HEALTH CARE.
Gee another bottom feeder hits the dust...pfffft! Too bad its going to have to take more of our court time to prosecute...gawwwwwd
You know, maybe you guys are right. On the other hand, maybe the drugs the guy had were only a small amount (for his or someone elses personal use) and the guns, while legally his were just not stored appropriately (or were stored according tot he law but were taken anyway). What i am saying is lets not jump to a lot of conclusions in our rush to be righteous.
Half of prince george would be in jail if everyone with an illegal drug was prosecuted. A lot of really respectable people have unregistered firearms. The guy practiced improper gunhandling, thats for sure. I am sure he will be charged with anything the RCMP can hang on him. I think that we shouldnt rush out little missives wishing the guy had died or encouraging the state to take all his stuff. We should temper our comments with the realization that most of us have been stupid (to a lesser or greater degree than shooting ourselves accidently) and/or in violation of one of our countries many laws and regulations. How would we like it if when we screwed up a bunch of people were out there screaming for our blood?
Now now, drugs (all amounts of drugs) are illegal. Nobody should ever be above the law. When you shoot yourself accidently and you have drugs in the house and some illegal fire arms, you are just bound to get yourself in a lot of trouble. It's like speeding tickets, if you don't want one, slow down. I'm against gun registration myself, but I'm not too concerned because I know for a fact (from a very reliable source) that as soon as all the criminals register their guns, the Gov is gonna throw all the honest peoples' reg papers away....ya'll hang in there!
One more thing caranmacil, anytime ANYONE screws up - there will ALWAYS be SOMEBODY out for blood. It's the way of the world. You know, you can please all the people some of the time, some of the people all the time, but you cannot please all the people all the time.
Well I cant say that just because there will always be SOME people who behave badly (being out for blood is very seldom a good thing) that i need to just accept it and not speak against it. Saying something is the way of the world does not make the opinion a worldly one. There are a lot of things that fit into 'the way of the world' most of them are not the type of thing we would like to have applied to ourselves.
I do understand that drugs are illegal, though it doesnt say in the article that the firearms were. I also agreed that he was in for some charges. However, wishing he had been killed, or suggesting his house be taken away is, in my mind rediculous esp. without knowing even 1/2 of the facts. I agree that if you break the law and get caught you cant complain if you are charged. However, the punishment is supposed to be calibrated to fit the crime. You get a ticket for speeding, they dont throw you in jail and burn down your house. If you have an accident while speeding no one is out there suggesting you should have your house impounded to pay your bills. Drugs and drug laws are the favourite target of the self righteous. My father used to be big on cracking down on all the vices and crimes which he was not a party to. When it came to his own, he was not so sure....This is the way of the world if anything is! I know a lot of people think the law is too lenient . Maybe so, but anyone can see that wishing this guy dead, based on the facts in the article is just plain nonsense.
I suppose my arguement could be summed up by saying that i believe in the golden rule. Had i thought of that earlier i might have just typed that sentence in. Of course, in this day and age i suspect there are a lot of folk who dont even know what the rule is.....
Okay, let's play "what if"? What if, when he pulled the trigger - he shot a child? Your Child.

I believe giterdun's point regarding the seizing of the house would be to "pay for the medical bills he incurred". My mother is on a waiting list for surgery that would greatly enhance her life quality and expectancy (a condition caused by her years employed as a nurse), I have a friend who requires knee surgery but has to wait until next fall sometime. There are many who could go on and on, but this guy "while he may or may not have been under the influence of illegal narcotics, shoots himself, accidently, and is rushed right off to be taken care of at the expense of a whole lot of decent, law abiding people.

Now, I am not saying he does not deserve fair medical treatment. One of the greatest things about this country is it's compassion for equality. Everyone has a right to medical treatment, just some have to wait longer. I would never sit in judgement and would never want the power to say who could be treated and who couldn't. The day someone can actually do that - we are all in trouble. But it sure is nice to be able to air my feelings of unfairness on this site.
Out for Blood - Jesus said, let he who is without sin cast the first stone.
There but for the grace of God goes he, with the bullit in him instead of me.
i am going to try to be nice about this. all i hear from these comments asside from 2 of you is that ooh there is guns, ohh there is drugs, he should be dead we should have his house. what a bunch of freeking vulchures. you people make me sick. you dont know him, you do not know the situation of what went on. we dont even know if a, he will live or b, if he will have somewhat of a quality of life left, and all you people want to do is kick him while he is down when you dont know the whole story. hope you people sleep whell at night............
jonblaze...does your mother know you talk like that? Kinda denotes a lack of command of the English language. Methinks.
Hey jonblaze, normal joe and caranmacil: your comments make me wonder what drugs you are on. ,,,,,,,
caranmacil,

so its okay to have small quantities of illegal stuff is it?

So if i just have a small nuclear bomb its ok, just so long as its not a BIG nuke ???
there comes a point when you have to come out that perfect little bubble that you have created for yourself and grasp a little bit of reality.
What I'm getting from the many posts here is that if we meet a person who keeps illegal drugs and firearms (the report did not mention anything about them being illegal) in his house and accidentally shoots himself, that we shouldn't be forming a bad opinion about him. One guy here defended the man as just having a bag of weed and a small amount of cocaine and that the man was just having bad luck.

Why is it that, here in Canada, people seem to trivialize matters like these? Possessing drugs, regardless of the amount, is not a small thing. Possessing illegal firearms (if they really are illegal) is not a small thing. Accidentally shooting oneself is not a small thing. Having bad luck/going through tough times is something that we all go through. It is not an excuse to engage in socially unacceptable behavior.

Now someone here will probably pipe up that I'm being righteous. Am I being righteous? By your definitions I could be. But then again, by your definitions I might actually have a right to be righteous. Let me see. I've never done drugs. I smoked one whole stick of cigarette in my entire life. Never kept firearms in my house. I'm a social drinker limited to 1 glass in any event. I worked my way through university and through graduate school. I've been employed full time since I was 19 yo. Never had an affair with a married man. By virtue of the fact that my self-discipline and moral sensibility was strong enough to successfully stir clear of any vice and illegal activity while carrying out my share of community obligations, then, yes, I am proud to accept the cloak of self-righteousness. The whiners out there would say, "but you probably never experienced anything traumatic in your life." What's traumatic? I find it amusing how Canadians view the things that you should be able to overcome as traumatic - e.g., Spouse dumped me, can't seem to make things work out. I don't want to work, I'm depressed. My teachers/boss damaged my self esteem; I'm depressed; I don't think I can do this. I got fired from my job. I ran away from home because I don't want to follow my parents' rules. How many homeless teenagers do you have not because they don't have homes but because they just want to be free of rules? I don't deny that there are those with legitimate reasons to run away from homes - abusive homes - but this in itself is also a sign of something that is very wrong with this country's moral fiber. The least a child should expect is to be abused by her own family.

Anyway, back to the guy who shot himself accidentally. While I do not know his circumstances and why he shot himself, his current state (the fact that he's on drugs and had a lot of firearms in his house) does not reflect very nicely on his character. So says I, the self-proclaimed righteous person (according to people's definition of here of who can be a righteous person). Well, I just hope he gets well and decides to get his life in order once he gets out of the hospital.

To jonblaze, you sound like you're a guy who's "down on his luck" as well. Stop making excuses for people's weaknesses and failures. Get on with your life. Learn to compose proper sentences. Some people might not agree about the importance of sentence construction and proper English since, as some say, if people still understand you, what does it matter if it's gramatically correct or not. Well, I say, it does matter. A lot. It reflects how much care you're capable of putting into your job. It reflects how professional you are. These are things that may not be important in your personal life but are very very important at work.
