Initiatives Prince George had asked the City for a $60 thousand dollar budget enhancement for the "Train in P.G" program.

When it came up for discussion at  the City’s budget meetings,  City Manager Derek Bates indicated there were already costs being incurred by Initiatives Prince George, and there was no guarantee the funding would be provided under the tourism grants as Initiatives Prince George  had hoped. Council  was concerned it would be on the hook for $60 grand if the funding fell through.

Council opted to set the item aside until it received more information.  That information was forthcoming tonight.

Satisfied the City will not be held directly responsible for thefunds should the funding fall through  (and there is every indication it will be approved, just  delayed until  May).

The recommendation approved this evening was :

Subject to a successful 2007 application to the Union of B.C. Phase II Tourism Grant Program, $60 thousand dollars be provided to Initiatives Prince George to undertake the "Train in Prince George" program.

His white elephant on 1st Avenue should have been enough to send him packing.
