Two people are dead following a truck- car collision on Highway 97 earlier today.
The two, both residents of Keremeos , were in a PT Cruiser  travelling northbound towards Quesnel on Highway 97 .  Police say the  car  went out of control and crossed into the southbound lane where it was struck on the passenger side by a Chevy pick up truck.
.
All four occupants from the pick up were taken to hospital, at least the driver was believed injured from the air bag going off, but police say it did help him avoid severe injuries.
The highway was closed for a period of time when the accident occurred, and a tractor trailer unit trying to move around the accident scene on French Road also slid into the ditch.
The entire accident scene has now been cleaned up and police report that slippery conditions on the highway from a fresh fall of snow were definitely a factor in the crash.
No identification has been released at this time.

I asked this about a month ago, but I'll ask again:

When are we getting that divided highway?
I don't know, but it is way overdue. The traffic needs to be separated as these needless deaths can be prevented.

Let the Feds take the Canadian money that is being spent in Afghanistan to build roads and bridges and help us it over here to upgrade our own infrastructure first.

I am sure that most of the devastation caused by the war can be/should be repaired by those who did the destroying in the first place, and I am sure that everyone knows who I am talking about.

Cheers!
Hey come on guys, you know these things take time eh? (snicker) In the meantime, if we all drove a lot slower, fewer lives would be lost. There is a high volume of traffic, as we all know, plus some people in a big hurry. Those two things, coupled with winter conditions, add up to potential carnage.
metalman.
I agree with metalman.

The few minutes you save by driving fast on bad road conditions will not help you if you end up dead. Slow down folks.
I went to Quesnel today got thier about 9:30am and the plow trucks hadn't started plowing the roads yet and thier must have been 6-7" of wet Vancouver snow very dangerous driving at any speed.I left Quesnel at 11:00am and the roads were being plowed but they were still only about a lane and a half wide no passing lanes had been plowed and by now this snow was turning to 6" of very wet slush that would send you flying if you got out of the rots. These peoples family should sue the hyways contracter at least then they might see that the money they save by not plowing the roads could actually cost them more in the end.I feel bad for the guys operating the plows because they do a great job but they have no control over the hours they work and unfortunatly they are the ones on the front lines when it comes to complaints.
Just another little side not I talked to a log truck driver who was just finishing a night shift and he said it had been snowing since midnight so its not like the hyways contracter was surprised by a freak storm. That is 9.5 hours it had been snowing with no road maintance.
I drove that and many other roads within 600 km of pg and put my vehicle into the ditch three times. All my fault...........overdriving the conditions of the road.
10 cents federal road tax per liter and 14.5 cent provincial road tax per liter of gas.

The question should be if we are getting value for our investment and if not why not?

Add to that the new 15% softwood lumber tax the feds are now collecting under Harpers deal and one has to wonder where all these tax dollars go.
Sad. The lowbidder for the area probably had their plows taken off for the rest of the season. Probably had to call them in too as they can't afford to have them patrol the highways to make sure they are safe. Only until someone dies then they see fit to do the job they are supposed to do.
It might be them PT Cruisers as well. I think the last major accident with the tanker truck near Hixon was also a PT Cruiser that crossed the center line when losing control.
