$6 Million Invested on Improving Aboriginal Health
By 250 News
Under the "ActNow B.C." program, the province has just announced it is putting $6 million dollars into the implementation of the First Nations Health Plan.
The plan was first announced last fall and carries 29 recommmendations to bridge the health gap between First Nations and other British Columbians.
On average, Aboriginal people in B.C. face a shorter lifespan than other British Columbians.
The National Collaborating Centre for Aboriginal Health (NCCAH), BC Initiatives division, located at the University of Northern British Columbia, will work with the BC Assembly of First Nations, First Nations Summit and Union of BC Indian Chiefs in developing key partnerships that will build an ActNow BC program for Aboriginal
communities throughout the province.
Part of the centre's work will be the expansion of the Honour Your Health Challenge, a community-based program that raises awareness about health and tobacco misuse.
