McBride Secondary Classes ON
By 250 News
It is back to classes today at McBride Secondary School in McBride.
School District 57 Superintendent Brian Pepper says a number of air quality readings were taken at the school last night, and again this morning "The air quality inside the school is back to normal, it is safe for McBride Secondary students to return to school and continue their learning" says Pepper.
Yesterday, the school was evacuated about 10:00 a.m. when a cloud of noxious smoke filled the school. 49 students wre taken to hospital, assessed, some were given oxygen, and all were released. The balance of students and staff went to a nearby church where they too were assessed by health officials who responded to the scene.
The initial investigation indicates the cloud was caused by a chemical reaction when a clay art project was placed in an oven that had some residue of a cleaner that had been used the day before.
Students complained of nausea, dizziness and drowziness.
The investigation into the incident continues today.
