The Charles Jago Northern Sports Center received a major boost today when Canfor pledged $500,000 towards the sports centre. The announcement was made by, Peter Bentley, of Canfor.
The half million dollar contribution still leaves UNBC about $ 4 million short in the construction cost for the new facility. The previous Federal govenment had pledged those dollars, but the election of the Harper team scuttled that promise. The University remains positive about raising the balance of the funds.
UNBC President Don Cozzetto thanked Canfor saying "This facility will revolutionize the opportunities for citizens both young and old to pursue their athletic dreams and maintain a healthy lifestyle. Thank you Canfor for supporting our vision so enthusiastically." He also offered praise to the WIC and Giffels Constructrion crews "For continuing to bring this project in on time and within budget."
The University is planning a three day celebration this September for the grand opening of the facility. The 145 thousand sqaure foot Charles Jago Northern Sport Centre will be open for use by Labour Day weekend, but the official opening is set for Friday September 21st.
The new entrance way to the facility will be renamed the Canfor Plaza in honor of the major contribution.

Well, I would rather they relocate so we don't have so much pollution in the bowl. I think it would be money better spent for the good of all.
In my opinion, it is a buy off "think of us as someone that contributes to the community not as an entity that causes such pollution".
I am not impressed.
