The Head of Hockey Canada, Bob Nicholson has informed the House of Commons Official Languages Committee that Hockey Canada is  100%  behind Shane Doan's  selection as  the Captain of Team Canada.

Doan's position  was brought into question by the leader of the Bloc Quebecois over a francophone slur  in  a game in Montreal  in late 2005.  The incident was investigated, and while Nicholson says the  remark was made,  it  has been  proven it wasn't Doan who  made the comment.

Meantime Team Canada has a record of 3-0 after beating Slovakia  5-4 on Wednesday.  Friday morning, Team Canada will face Belarus in the first game of the qualifying round.  That game will be broadcast on TSN at 7:15 a.m. pacific time.

This is one of the most rediculous things our politicians have involved themselves with. As a Conservative supporter I'm disappointed to hear they are involved in this farce as well. It's ironic that the Bloc is worried that Canadian tax dollars are going towards someone who may have uttered a French slur, and yet Canadian tax dollars are paying the Bloc to sit in parliament and conspire to split our country apart. What a country we live in.
It is obviously apparent that we in Canada do not have any problems with healthcare, education, crime etc. That our public servants need to resort to this to get attention. I am disgusted that my tax dollars are going to these people to govern our country, and they spend time on an 'alleged remark' that happened over a year ago. Mr.Doan is abroad representing our country in a sport that most Canadians are passionate about, he obviously has the utmost respect from his peers to be awarded the captaincy and our government is once again sticking their noses somewhere it shouldn't belong. I vote Shane Doan for Captain of the 2010 Olympic hockey team
Death To Hockey.

Thin skinned or what?
"Doan's position was brought into question by the leader of the Bloc Quebecois over a francophone slur in a game in Montreal in late 2005."

I wonder if anyone ever brought the question of the use of English on public signs in Quebec to question.

Let us just say that Doan used the "notwithstanding" clause.

;-)

The Bloc is just wishing to bring shame on Canada. Its a sick use of politics. Its a sign of our future with new hate crime laws run amuck making political correctness the rule of the day by law.

Next they will be throwing French Catholics in jail for affirming their faith in opposing two sodomists adopting young children. The Bloc can take credit in that as well.

Freedom of speech will die and the holocaust religion will rule the day. Only the zionist political agenda will be legal at the end of the day.

#1) The alleged comments were justified when you have three French refs making biased calls in French Montreal. There should be nothing wrong with pointing out the obvious.

#2) It has never been proven that Dion was in fact the person that said the comments.
Shoot dem puck, move dem skate. Who cares what was said or when it was said. Its all history now.

Anyone remember General Charles Degaulle's famous *Vive Le Quebec Libre* that was somewhat of an insult as I recall.

Then of course there was Pierre Trudeau's famous middle finger in the air in Salmon Arm, which got someones attention.

Of course we shouldnt forget our wonderful Prime Minister Jean Chretian grabbing a heckler by the throat and choking him. That could be construed as an insult.

I remember being in the Quebec Laurentions in the late 60's when they wouldnt give you a menu in English, and you had to make a guess at what you wanted to order. In addition the Quebec flag was hoisted higher than the Canadian Flag on the Hotel and in other areas of Quebec. That of course is a major insult, and yet we all survived.

A slur by one Hockey player to another is hardly worth mentioning.

I agree that our Politicians should find something more productive to do.
Zoom. Most Canadians are passionate about a lot of things, but Hockey is not one of them.

To give you an example the average crowd at a WHL Hockey game in Prince George last year was 3000. That means that 74000 people were not very interested.

The myth that all Canadians are Hockey fans lives on, much like the myth of Ogo Pogo, the Loch Ness Monster, Bigfoot, and last but not least that **George Bush** has a brain.
Palopu who authorized you to speak for most Canadians?
Under the circumstances I would suggest that everytime we go to the grocery store we take the time to turn the product labels so the the English side out. Hide the french. That could be the BC version of the language police. That would sure show those French Canadian politicians in Ottawa.
chander as ushual your comments drift off topic and into your "zionist political agenda" BS. man your a piece of work.
Its a slippery slope....
Pal, You are right in that it is a myth that 'all' Canadians are hockey fans, however I think I can safely assume that more Canadians care more about hockey than things such as politics, arts and culture. The 3000 fans at a Cougars game is probably more than the amount of people that went through the Art Gallery last year, or that have ever followed the goings on in Ottawa. It appears the most attention Federal politics gets in when they question Hockey Canada.
Zoom I certainly agree with you as far as the Art Gallery goes, I think the majority of people who go through that facility are School Children, who probably do not have a choice.

Ruez: Who authorized Sports Commentators, New Casters, and various and sundry Canadians to suggest on an ongoing basis *ad nauseum* that all Canadians are interested in Hockey.
