The 43 rd annual North American Moose conference is under way at UNBC.

There are also delegates from all across Canada, the North West Territories, the Yukon, Nova Scotia,  Manitoba, Alberta, Ontario and  British Columbia.

The conference got underway in earnest today at UNBC as speakers began a series of workshops into the present and future of the  Moose. On Wednesday a talk will be given by Chris Ritchie, with the BC Ministry of the Environment, dealing with the effects of the Pine Beetle on the Moose population and the possible outcome.

The conference will also hear about the effects of Moose moving from general browse to feed such as hay, straw, and other crops, a paper will also be given on the steadily increasing winter population of 500,000 moose in Norway and Sweden. Those two countries manage one of the largest natural resources in Scandinavia.

From the USA, a report will be given showing that after nearly a century of decline and range problems, moose populations are increasing across the North Eastern US. The conference will also hear about ideas to reduce the number of Moose/ vehicle collisions.

The conference lasts until June 7th.

Fer a second, reading the headlines, I thought I was reading about Councillor Moose. Alas, if he only knew percentages.
um....exciting.....but...did they invite any Moose or did they just talk about them behind their backs?
I thought it was a banquet.

There are two clubs in PG. I did not realize we were hosting the world conference. The hotels must be filled.

BTW, the University grounds would be a good example of how moose habitat is destroyed.
