The Prince George Cougars lost 18-year-old defenceman Lance Redden to the expansion Edmonton Oil Kings. Redden, a product of Macrorie, SK, skated in 52 games with the Cougars this past season, recording 2 goals and 7 assists for 9 points.

"We want to thank Lance for his service to the Cougars. We wish him the best of luck with his future hockey endeavours,” said Cougars GM Dallas Thompson.

The only other BC Division Western Hockey Leaguer to go in the Oil Kings expansion draft today was 18-year-old left-winger Brett Breitkreuz of the Kelowna Rockets. Three of the four twenty year-olds selected by Edmonton were defencemen. The Oil Kings added a pair of 17 year-olds from the BC Hockey League. Centre Clay Cumiskey played all 60 regular season games for the now-defunct Williams Lake Timberwolves. Defenceman Tyler Hlookoff was on the Quesnel Millionaires blue line for 56 games.

Prior to the expansion draft, Edmonton claimed left-winger Brenden Dowd from the Kamloops Blazers and goalie Alex Archibald from the Chilliwack Bruins.

“We’ve added a good mix of solid veterans and promising young players,” said Oil Kings GM Bob Green.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

City of Dawson Creek Okays Deal With Global Spectrum To Run Community Multiplex

(Dawson Creek, British Columbia - May 29, 2007) The City of Dawson Creek has selected Global Spectrum, the fastest growing firm in the public assembly management field, as the successful proponent to manage the South Peace Community Multiplex that opens this fall. City Council ratified the recommendation made by J.R. Huggett, the independent consulting firm hired by the City to review and evaluate all the proposals that were received.

“We are extremely happy to have a firm with the extensive experience of Global Spectrum,” says Dawson Creek Mayor Calvin Kruk. “Having Global Spectrum’s involvement brings a vast amount of international experience to the table but they also have experience in BC with facilities in Penticton and Abbotsford.”

Global Spectrum was one of three firms looking for the rights to manage the facility, the others being NuStadia and Global Entertainment. Global Entertainment was the original management company expected to run the facility until plans to finance capital improvements did not materialize. Global Spectrum is not affiliated with Global Entertainment.

“This is an exciting opportunity for Global Spectrum to further enhance our business in British Columbia,” said Global Spectrum Chief Operating Officer John Page. “With three new facilities under construction in the Province, we will be able to pull our Canadian resources together and combine them with our outstanding resources that exist at all of our other facilities to provide an incredible experience for our customers attending events at the venues we manage throughout British Columbia.”

The Surrey based J.R.Huggett evaluated each of the proposals based on six criteria, including: local knowledge, experience operating arenas, track record and strategy to attract events, strategy to attract and retain an anchor tenant, business model proposed, and viability of the business plan proposed.

Global Spectrum will be on site as soon as possible to manage the opening of the facility while simultaneously finalizing a long term Management Agreement with the City.
