The Nechako River will soon see another rise.

Alcan has increased the discharge from the Skins Lake Spillway to 302 cubic metres per second.  When that is combined with the flows coming from the Nautley River, Vanderhoof can soon expect to see flows of 540 – 550 cubic metres per second.

Alcan  says  the reservoir was at 2797.5 leaving it just 2.5 feet  to take run off .  It has applied to increase the maximum reservoir limit to 2801 feet, and if it doesn’t get approval, even more water will have to be discharged.

In Vanderhoof, officials are once again notifying residents on either side of the Nechako to move things to higher ground as some basement flooding can be expected this weekend.  The higher flow is expected to reach Vanderhoof on the 9th.

It is possible there will be another community meeting in Vanderhoof next Wednesday.
