Visiting Restrictions Lifted at Stuart Nechako Manor
By 250 News
Northern Health has lifted visiting restrictions at Stuart Nechako Manor in Vanderhoof, following an outbreak of gastrointestinal illness caused by noro-virus.
The outbreak that began in mid-May involved small numbers of cases separated by several days. Visiting restrictions were put in place last week, as part of increased infection control measures at the facility.
The public is welcome to resume visiting Stuart Nechako Manor, but visitors will continue to be asked to help with infection prevention and control efforts, including an increased focus on hand washing.
The public can do several things to help prevent highly contagious gastrointestinal illnesses from making their way into health care facilities, including:
- staying at home if they are not feeling well. Symptoms of gastrointestinal illness include nausea, vomiting and diarrhea
- not returning to work or school until 48 hours after symptoms have resolved; and
- careful hand washing: wash your hands well for at least 20 seconds with warm water and soap. Always wash your hands before and after using the washroom, before eating or preparing food, and after helping someone who is ill (such as an ill child).
