The flames have all been extinguished, but not before the raging inferno that broke out in Fort St. John this morning completely gutted two motels and heavily damaged an industrial building, destroying many of the tenant businesses.

The blaze broke out shortly before 2:00am in a still-under-construction motel, the Nova Star.  Fire fighters from Fort St. John, Taylor and Charlie Lake fought for hours, but were not able to prevent the fire from spreading, and destroying, the nearby Esta Villa Motel.  Damage is reported to be severe to the industrial building behind the motels, as well.

The Fort St. John Serious Crimes Unit is now conducting an investigation into how the fire began.  Constable Jackelynn Passarell says the RCMP are treating the fire as suspicious and are working in conjunction with the B.C. Fire Commissioner's Office, the Fort St. John Fire Department and Special Fire Investigators within the RCMP to determine the cause of the fire.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the FSJ detachment at 250-787-8140 or CrimeStoppers at 1-800-222-2477.

I've heard that the Hells Angels own the one big hotel in the downtown area of FSJ. Guess perhaps they don't like competition???
Hey, they are also reported to own the Okanagan Lake Resort in Kelowna and a Westin Hotel is coming in on the other side of Prospera Place. Maybe Westin should reconsider.

;-)
You guys don't know what you are talking about.
If there was an issue about competition, don't you thing someone would have done something to the new Super 8, Pomeroy Inn, or Lakeview suites?

Think before you post.
eh cabenko..... THe HA's do own the big lakefront hotel in downtown kelowna and they also happen to own the dockside restaurent on the other side of the floating bridge on the westbank side. It's called money laundering..and many HA's own businesses in order to do this.

Eliminating competition is what theyre all about.......why don't we wait until the serious crimes unit comes up with a cause for the fire.....

Naturally, it doesnt mean the HA's did it....but everyone is allowed to speculate and post their thoughts. If you have a better theory then post it.
I like that .... serious crimes unit ...

I wonder what it feels like for an officer to work in the not-so-serious crimes unit ... guess everyone has to start somewhere ..... both criminals and law enforcement ....

;-)
Well, lets see..
Other fires that the police are investigating include a shed and a trampoline. Were kids getting on the HA's turf?

Knowing FSJ as well as I do (lived here for 31 years), it is one or more teenagers with nothing to do.
