RCMP Serious Crimes Investigating FSJ Fire
By 250 News
The flames have all been extinguished, but not before the raging inferno that broke out in Fort St. John this morning completely gutted two motels and heavily damaged an industrial building, destroying many of the tenant businesses.
The blaze broke out shortly before 2:00am in a still-under-construction motel, the Nova Star. Fire fighters from Fort St. John, Taylor and Charlie Lake fought for hours, but were not able to prevent the fire from spreading, and destroying, the nearby Esta Villa Motel. Damage is reported to be severe to the industrial building behind the motels, as well.
The Fort St. John Serious Crimes Unit is now conducting an investigation into how the fire began. Constable Jackelynn Passarell says the RCMP are treating the fire as suspicious and are working in conjunction with the B.C. Fire Commissioner's Office, the Fort St. John Fire Department and Special Fire Investigators within the RCMP to determine the cause of the fire.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the FSJ detachment at 250-787-8140 or CrimeStoppers at 1-800-222-2477.
