Crowd gathers in front of the bandshell in Fort George Park for performances

Several hundred people have made their way down to Fort George Park this afternoon to celebrate National Aboriginal Day.

Performances on the bandshell stage are slated to run well into the evening on this, the first official day of Summer.

The Rainbow Dancers are set to take the stage at 6:30pm tonight.

At right, Curtis Seymour sings and drums "The Travelling Song" about the five first villages on the rivers in our area, including Miworth, Mud River, and the one at Fort George.

Seymour says the song describes how the villagers use to travel between the five, following the salmon run.

In addition to the requisite food vans at the park today, a number of vendors are on-site.

The children loved the teepee.

Today’s event is the precursor to this weekend’s annual traditional PowWow hosted by the Prince George Native Friendship Centre at Carrie Jane Gray Park this weekend.

The Host Drum for the event is the Carrier Nation from Burns Lake.
