CN Rail’s General Manager for the Mountain Region is hoping to recruit from the region for its new Inland Container Port in Prince George.

Tom Bourgonje (pictured at left) says, initially, there will be 60 people hired to work at the trans-load/inter-modal facility and run the additional trains.

Set to begin operations on October 1st (click here for previous story), Bourgonje says the company will hold a Job Fair at the Civic Centre in Prince George on July 9th from 12pm until 8pm.

"We're going to have our people here actively pursuing mechanical people, transportation people, engineering people - we're looking for people from all crafts and we'd certainly like to see a big turn-out."

He adds, "Recruiting people isn't easy in this economic environment and we certainly need a good turn-out for that."

I'm sure they mey get someone to work for $8.00 per hour.
$8.00/hr??? I thought CN was union? Pretty sh!tty union if you can't get better than minimum wage! I thought all those workers had CN as a hostage? The CN workers should go non union for a better wage.
CN is Union and they will probably pay any where from $15.00 per hour to $28.00 per hour, for the Union Jobs. Engineers and Conductors/Trainmen get paid by the mile so they make good bucks. Somewhere in the area of $90,000.00 per year if they want to put in the hours.

CN whacked about 1500 jobs between Jasper and Prince Rupert in the last 30 years and their attitude was that thats the way it goes. Now of course the worm has turned and they are back to sucking up to get people to come to work for them. This Company leaves a lot to be desired, and if I was in the Market for a job they would be very close if not on the bottom of my list.

Poor Management Practices.
Poor Employee Management relations
Monopolistic customer service
Predatory pricing

Last but not least this Company is run out of Chicago Ill., and is for all intents and purposes a died in the wool American Company with all the baggage that goes with it.

The CEO of CN Rail, Hunter Harrison gets a salary and bonus's of approx $46 Million per year. This should give you some indication of where their priorities lie.

Holly Smokes! They pay a guy $46 million a year! I couldn't give a crap about their management, their relatives, their monopolistics or their pricing. That's a lot of money at $46 million a year. Sign me up, move over Harrison!
He has many concubines.
He adds, "Recruiting people isn't easy in this economic environment and we certainly need a good turn-out for that."

I wonder if we whispered "Mackenzie" in his ear whether he would know what that was about?
