B.C.’s Energy, Mines and Petroleum Resources Minister, Richard Neufeld, used a stop in Prince George this week to once again promise his government will implement a BioEnergy plan soon, but he can’t say just when...

Speaking to the Prince George Chamber of Commerce, Neufeld said, "I can’t tell you the exact date, all I can ask you to do is to be patient and it will be coming."

Neufeld did say there has been a lot of interest.  He points to BC Hydro’s call for ’Expressions of Interest’ this past March for the potential of using beetle-kill timber, sawmill residue and logging debris to generate electricity. (click here for related Opinion250 article)

Neufeld told the local crowd, "Actually, we were very successful, or BC Hydro was, in receiving over 80 different submissions from different groups and companies and organizations about how they thought we could actually move forward with that."

Neufeld says Hydro has been reviewing the submissions and, together, the government and the utility expect to make some announcements soon about moving to the ’Request For Proposals’ stage.

Actually, I think the government knows more than it is actually saying about the future of forestry in B.C.
This is a step in the right direction, but we need to do more now instead of later.
MacKenzie is a wake-up call!
We all need to be paying attention because it's going to get much worse down the road, and we are going to need all the help we can get!
This is what they get paid for!
