The City of Prince George is now offering a $1,000 dollar reward for information that will lead to the arrest and conviction of the person responsible for defacing the Terry Fox statue.

Last week , the damage to the statue was discovered, "This isn’t just vandalism says Mayor Colin Kinsley, "The statue has been badly damaged"

The Mayor says he can’t understand why someone would want to  carry out this kind of  act  "It is damaged beyond repair,  I hope the public will hear about this reward, and  help us find the person responsible, so we can have this person brought  before the public.  How anyone could carry out such a cowardly act   to a Canadian hero, it is just awfully frustrating."

The Mayor’s comments were echoed by some Councilors,

Don Zurowski   "This is not just defacing the art, it is insulting the cause."

Murry Krause "We have been trying to  increase  public art in this City and I’m concerned this kind of action will put that program at risk."

The Mayor says  efforts to add more public art to the City will continue; "This is in no way going to  stop us from doing public art."  The Mayor also  said he knows some of the street people have been " watching out for Terry"  that when it is very cold, they have placed a  warm wool hat on the  statue’s head.

Anyone with  information on who may have caused the damage to the statue  at Confederation Park  at 7th and Dominion, is asked to call Crime stoppers (222-TIPS) or the  Prince George RCMP Detachment at 561-3300

Public hanging for whoever is responsible is a fitting punishment and deterent for others thinking of doing the same thing
now THAT is low...very low!
Hope they catch the scumbags that did it!
But then, they will just give them a slap on the wrist and send them on their way......
We could even make the park where the statue is the public hanging park.

Looks like we will be doing a lot of hanging according to the interest on this site in such spectacles.
We should be advertising for a hangman. Will either of you be stepping up to apply?

;-)
The city shouldn't be littering the city with dead people. The money spent on the dumb caricature should have been donated to the cause those people promoted. I doubt these people would want good money spent on something so useless.
Now that is an interesting thought! I would tend to agree with that.

What should we do with all the dead bears?

;-)
While I'm not a simple thinker like DPJ and call for public hangings (Hey buddy the 1800's called. They want their brains back), I am shocked at why someone would want to deface a monument to a true Canadian hero.

Terry Fox never wanted the fame nor did he accept a single dime for all he did on his run or the subsequent tidal wave of activity afterwards. He simply said that he didn't sit on his ass and whine about it. He went and did something about it.

I think that's a lesson all of us could learn.

Terry Fox was a true Canadian hero, and if this small monument helps other generations understand what he did, I'd be willing to support that.
Psychologists probably have some good explanations. Anger management maybe? or some sort of Freudian disorder. Or too much beer at the wedding festivities in the Civic Centre.

The reasons are endless. Likely they made sense to the person at the time.

Maybe he came from the Legion and he was upset that his buddy drove over a mine in Afghanistan to keep the Prime Minister of the Country happy.
