Plans To Redesignate Land Reviewed

A public meeting was held at Pineview Community Centre to review and discuss plans to change the region's community plan to allow for commercial use on a 4 hectare parcel of land along Ellis Road. The land, located on the north side of the Johnson/Torpy intersection, was recently redesignated for light industrial use which applicant L&M Engineering Ltd. would like changed to allow highway commercial usage, to compliment the Prince George Airport's expansion plans. Redesignation of the land is necessary to apply for rezoning.
L&M would like to develop the land, which is currently owned by Pollyco Group Investments Ltd. and Johnson Street Properties Ltd., for hotel and commercial uses for the traveling public as well as the local community. L&M representative David McWalter explained that hotel construction is still a long way off, though. "Hotels are part of our long term plans," says McWalter, "Many more steps must be taken before that."
The meeting gave the public an opportunity to voice any concerns about the proposed changes, which were mostly regarding how aesthetics, traffic and noise levels in the area would be affected if a hotel was constructed. McWalter responded that buffers and quality landscaping would be used to keep impact in the area to a minimum. City services such as water and sewage would also need to be accessed, which would be done at the expense of the developer, not the region's taxpayers.
