BC Hydro is seeing a slight 'bump up' in demand for electricity across the region as a result of the hot weather, presumably from the use of air conditioners.
But the BC Hydro North's Manager of Community Relations says the North's peak loads actually occur in early January - the result of increased furnace use, lingering Christmas light use, and industrial activity.
David Conway says summer peak loads from air conditioning do occur in the Okanagan, but not in our region.
Conway says, in fact, the call to residents on the Lower Mainland to conserve energy is not so much due to air conditioning use as it is the fact Vancouver is down to one transformer, from two right now.
