Lots to See At This Year's PGX
By Steven Cote
Celebrations at the 95th annual PGX kicked off yesterday with Pioneer Day, where all seniors were admitted for only $2. Events such as pig races, fire-fighter demonstrations, and 4-H Club displays entertained kids and adults alike, while Heritage Lane gave a quick glimpse into Prince George history.
The area’s finest farm animals were groomed on display in the livestock buildings, including pigs, sheep, and turkey, as well as a whole barn of miniature horses. The local 4-H Club judged poultry and rabbits in the PGX barn, and beef showmanship in the Agriplex. Inside Kin II a variety of other 4-H Club entries are on display, such as prizewinning knitted items, flowers, and lavish displays assembled by various local organizations .
Local vendors are gathered in Kin I with a range of crafts, snacks and clothing for sale, and classic food favourites like cotton candy and churros are available throughout the fairgrounds.
The midway provides a load of entertainment for the whole family, with all the standard carnival fare plus games and rides just for the little ones.
Kids could visit the animals at the petting zoo, and Scooter the Clown was on hand to entertain young and old while he searched the grounds for his lost balloon dog.
