The Brick Building on Third Avenue in Prince George has  a new life.

Emri Group, the owners of the building,  has entered into a long term lease with City Furniture which will vacate the store at Second and Dominion to move to  the 3rd Avenue  site.   In connection with City Furniture’s lease, Emri Group will purchase City Furniture’s existing property.

Liquidation World has also signed a long term lease for the 27 thousand  square feet  upstairs.

The  stand alone restaurant at 4th and Quebec, which  was Noodles Cafe, will become a new sushi restaurant.

The property, occupying nearly an entire block in the centre of downtown Prince George, is a landmark retail property having originally been home to The Hudson’s Bay Company.

Emri Group purchased the property in November 2006 and has replaced the roof and is currently undertaking improvements to the building’s mechanical systems as well as a complete repainting of the building and the attached 200 car multi-level parking facility.

“We’re excited to have secured City Furniture and Liquidation World to long term commitments in this important building”, said Ian Duke of the Emri Group. “We’re big believers in the future of downtown Prince George and are really pleased to be able to contribute to its revitalization as a retail destination”. The Emri Group has also purchased the Achillion restaurant property and two apartment buildings in or near downtown Prince George in the last year and,

City Furniture President Ray Kandola expressed excitement at the impending move and expansion of his business, which he has operated in downtown Prince George for over 30 years. “We see this as an opportunity to grow our business in this market and to establish a greater presence downtown in a high profile building.”

City Furniture expects to open in its new location in December of this year, after completing tenant improvements.

Good news for downtown. Hello, city council? look! before you knew what was going on, a couple of long term leases were signed! And all (apparently) without "facilitation" from city council or "initiatives" prince george. However did they do it without photo ops and press releases?
metalman.
mmmm sushi...which one is the best Owl?
Metalman for Mayor.
The ones I know about are:

Suzuran – 15th
Tokyo – 20th and Fir
Sushi Hut on Central near 8th
Shogun – Coast Inn
Sushi Factory – Hwy 16 next to Ave Maria

I have eaten in the top four and I would rate them in that order, with Suzuran being on the expensive side.

I love going to Vancouver and Richmond which probably has both the best quality and the most economical sushi dining in Canada. People back east appear to be amazed at the variety of places one can find there especially the great little “holes-in-the-wall places.
I am pleased that the building is receiving some updating and improvements. They will be appreciated by all downtown business owners. Congratulations to City Furniture for stepping it up a notch.

In the past, we haven't shopped at City Furniture, mainly because of the location. However, we are more comfortable with the location of 3rd ave. We will drop in more often. Chester
Nope, the best sushi in town is Shendo at the Bon Voyage site.
I Agree with Sendo or Shendo or whatever they're called as best Sushi.

And congrat's to Ray and Darren and the staff of City Furniture on their new location. I've bought there in the past, they were always good to me. Good for them.
I will have to try the place at the Voyageur now that you say it is the best.

I think one gets spoiled eating at sushi restaurants in Vancouver.

One of the best bargains in downtown Vancouver is the "all you can eat" lunch and supper at Shabusen on Burrard across from BCTV. Lunch is under $15 and supper under $20.

I love sashimi and will generally order two orders of 6 pieces each of tuna sashimi along with goyza, various sushi rolls, tempura, etc. Very hard to beat anywhere. They also have Korean cuisine. Reasonable atmosphere as well. Takes a couple of times to get used to the ordering process, but once you understand how it works, it is very efficient.
