The carving of the UNBC athletic mascot the “Timberwolf” has been unveiled at the new Northern Sport Centre.

Artist Stuart Antonenko says the statue is made up of 185 pieces of laminated wood from 10 local species of trees.    It contains 300 feet of wood dowel, two steel rods to withstand any tugging or pulling from the public.  It weighs 650 pounds, (295.45 kgs) and once it has been filled with river rock, the weight will be more than one ton (1136.36 kgs).

The colours on the wolf are made up of 20 different stains.

The statue will be displayed in the main entrance of the new Northern Sport Centre which will officially open on the 21st of this month.

There we go messing up sports with art again... ; )
Too bad they didn't tell any one at the University what was going on. Maybe they would have more people show up.
First week of classes....most are still trying to get to classes on time.
Nice job Stuart...
looks more like a werewolf to me...
The university is going down and the new UNBC president Cozetto is wasting precious time on window dressing instead of correcting the mismanagment and administration corruption in UNBC.

Because of this mismanagment, the past two VPs in UNBC (Brunt and Poff) resigned from their positions. Poff at least left a report in Oct 2003 refering to the causes of the problem in UNBC that are contributing to enrolments going down. I hope Cozetto reads Poff's report [1] and start shaking the corrupt administration in UNBC before it is too late. Here are some excerpts of the report:

....
"Faculty members were asked to provide task force members with their views of collegial governance at UNBC by answering the following questions: What is working well? What is not working well? What suggestions do you have for improving the current process?"

....

"A key feature of the perceived dysfunction at this University [UNBC] is the belief that decision-making bodies are dominated by senior administrators or by special interest groups. Some faculty reported that they felt intimidated by some senior administrators and that bodies chaired by these individuals were weakened. Others noted a tendency for senior administrators to “bulldoze” over opposition dismissed as “complainers” or to be vindictive with those who oppose their views. This was reported at all levels of governance – people felt penalized by their chair at annual report time, by their Dean at tenure and promotion and by the President in Senate or at Public Forum."
[from Report of the Task Force on Collegial Governance, Oct 2003]

All staff and faculty in UNBC (perhaps except for new president) have seen this report and they know the extent of the mess and missmanagment in UNBC under the past president Jego and his team. The question is: what Cozetto has done over the past 12 months to address these serious issues? Why the corrupt adminstrators implicated in this report (like Dean of CSAM Dr William B. McGill) are still in office and intimidating the faculty? Now Jego is not there to fully support Dr McGill's intimidating/bulldozing the faculty. Why Cozetto is supporting him?

Lets warn Cozetto that when this corruption is investigated by an inquiry, Cozetto will be asked to answer these questions in public and not the past president who left UNBC or the past VP who resigned from his post fearing the scandal.

Lets see whether Cozetto is going to unveil the wolf(es) in the UNBC administration?
