The City of Quesnel is calling on the Cariboo Regional District to be its partner in collecting names on a petition  opposing the changes outlined by the Electoral Boundaries Commission.

The preliminary report would see the Cariboo North riding changed to encompass part of the Cariboo South riding and be renamed the Cariboo- Chilcotin.

While the Mayor of Quesnel  already sent a letter to the  Bundaries Commission outlining his City's displeasure with the changes,  Quesnel is taking it another step.

Quesnel  Council wants to hear from the public regarding the proposals contained in the report from the BC Electoral Boundaries Commission.   Quesnel Council wants to  circulate a petion throughout the  Cariboo Regional District to collect names of those  opposed to the recommendations.

Quesnel will present the petition  to the public hearing in Williams Lake on October 22nd.

Details about where the petition can be signed will be released shortly.

Meantime, the North Central Municipal Association  has an emergency resolution it will be taking to the Union of BC Municipalities  convention later this month.  The NCMA stands to lose two MLA's if the proposed changes are adopted.

The  Chair of the Regional District of Fraser Fort George has already made it clear his region will  keep up the fight to retain the current  number of northern MLA's, and will take that battle to the legislature if necessary.
