It is party time at the Northern BC Film Commission.

That office is now officially  ten years old.

During that time, the Northern BC Film Commission has generated an estimated $30 million in production for the region.

Started as a project for Prince George, the Film Commission has now  expanded it’s scope by   offering its services  throughout the 16-97 corridor.

To celebrate the decade mark, there will be a special reception later today.  “There are many people and organizations who have supported the film commission and contributed greatly to its success,” says Northern BC Film Commissioner Karen Cameron. “We want to take an opportunity to recognize them and thank them for their support.”

The Northern BC Film Commission is supported by Initiatives Prince George, City of Prince George, Regional District of Fraser-Fort George, Regional District of Kitimat-Stikine, Regional District of Bulkley-Nechako, Prince Rupert Economic Development Corporation, Town of Fort Nelson/Northern Rockies Regional District, North Peace Economic Development Commission, South Peace Economic Development Commission, District of Kitimat and the Government of B.C.

Anything on the books for movies production in the 16-97 area?
It is great for the Film Commission to have such wide support. It would be really great if they were supported more by the film industry. I know of the past projects, but have not heard too much about recent projects. Dreamcatcher was the last great ingestion into this region as far as I know.

I know smaller productions such as commercials also add up, but what are the comparative figures over the 10 years? What has the return on the invested dollar been over the years? Another industry hit by the rising Cannuck Buck. Forestry, Film, Tourism.
With the cdn dollar at its current level, you may see less investment by Hollywood in this region. They saved 35% before..now that these savings aren't to be realized there is no incentive to travel to our region. Sad, but true in my belief.
This is another positive PG story. Thanks to Sara Shaak who had a vision and started the Film Commision.
