bastards!
I live in the Red Bluff area of Quesnel and we do have a gang of teen-age toughs that rule the residential streets here looking for trouble. Vandalism has skyrocketed in the area and one of them threatened my 70-year old neighbour.

I have no idea how we can correct the situation. They always seem to disappear before the cops show up. I suppose we will just have to hope they graduate from skateboards and bikes to cars and leave this neighbourhood.
Could start a "baseball team" and carry a ball and everyone else can carry a bat. Wander around the neighbourhood at certain times with yer equipment. If any one asks, just say you guys are coming home from or going to a baseball game. Don't let out a smirk or a grin when you say this or you might not be taken seriously. Pain (on some one else) can't but help to change someones inner attitude. What's to lose, eh? No need to use the V word too. Just good ol' sports pursuits.
Lowlife chicken sh___ts! Chester
A bunch of low lifes that don't deserve to walk the streets? Do these kids have parents? And why, if you know who they are does it matter when the cops arrive?
Kinda make one think that vigilantism may not be a bad thing.
By enforcing all the laws on the books, ie; drinking in public, impaired driving, shop lifting, break and enter, assualt causing bodily harm, drug dealing, car stealing, etc; and handing out stiff jail terms for second offences, etc; you would over a short period of time have most of these *losers* off the streets.

Problem is we do not enforce the laws we have on the books, mainly because we dont want to fill up the jails because it is too expensive.

The decision to not enforce the laws are made by someone, either the Attorney General, the Prosecutors, the Police, someone in authority is fully aware of what is happening, and is doing very litte about it.

We all know that at any given time we can see numerous people riding bikes without helmets. Now this seems like a minor offence, however if you do not enforce the law, then by extention you are saying that it can be ignored. The bottom line is that you either enforce it or get rid of it. To have the law ignored only leads to other laws being ignored.

The same thing applies to other laws. Its time for them to be enforced.

Some of these laws are ignored by the Police because those that are breaking the law have no money and therefore cannot pay a fine, so why bother.

We have gotten to the point where some people think that it is their devine right to shop lift and get very perturbed if you try to stop them.

Instead of builing a new PAC, and Co-Generation Plant, and God knows what else. Lets build a new Prison and fill it with criminals.

If putting them in jail locally doesnt work, then we should have these Penitentiarys in the Artic, so that they can enjoy the Northern Lights.

The shooting of innocent bystanders in Surrey the other day is just one of many instances that show that we have lost control of our communities. We had better get it back soon, or all hell will break loose.
I couldn't agree more Palopu!
And I also believe that the Attorney General in this province is in fact part of the big problwm!!
Wearing a helmut doesn't directly affect the rights or health of others. How about just dealing with the real problem people who victimize others in some way and let's deal with them first? Chester
Chester. The helmut is irrevalant. The point is the law is being ignored. Not just the helmut law but lots of others.

Enforce all the laws and over time you will get all the criminals.

As an example. If you convicted and jailed an individual for breaking and entering, its possible that inadvertedly you stopped this person from selling drugs, stealing cars, shop lifting, assualt, being drunk in a public place, etc;

These are not one dimensional crooks, they break many laws over time on a consistant basis. There are only so many crooks, theives, etc; in a given area. Put them away and things will start to change.

Look at Ontarios new laws on racing cars on public streets. This law has been in effect for a little over one month. They have seized 683 vehicles, issued huge fines, suspended licences etc; and guess what there is already a drop in street racing. An interestings side note was that a lot of the cars seized belonged to this kids parents, who of course were not impressed.

Enforce the law, stop the crime.
