It has been three months since Opinion250 News told you about the $5.3 million dollars in repairs to the Prince George Correctional Centre.

So far so godd, Ken Ferris of BCBC says  he has checked and all repairs are, at this time, on time and on budget.

The jail, known as the "Hilton on the Hill" wassufffering from leaky condo syndrome.  The stucco had to be repaired, and the roof replaced  in order to  correct a mopisture problem  with insulation.

There original construction of the building was handled by the Kraft Construction  Company out of Winnipeg.

There will be no legal action involved, as the problem was deemed to be the result of accepted construction practices of the day.

The repairs are expected to be completed in December, if not sooner.

How a reputable "company" such as BCBC could ever have allowed such a system known as "Exterior Insulating Finishing System" to be installed on their building is beyond me. EIFS goes against every princple of building physics taught in schools and promoted by the National Research Council.

Here is two web sites which provide some background to show that it is a common problem which should not be.

The problems will persist under the right conditions since the method is still in use today.

Take a look at the contruction of the development at 15th and Central. Wait 15 years ....

Take a look at the "outsulation' put onto the older CNC buildings.

Take a look at the "stucco" on the upper parts of the court house downtown.

Take a look at many of the "modern" stucco houses in our subdivisions.

The wait ..... some will happen earlier than others .... some may not happen because they are improperly installed .....

It's a toss of a coin now that the work is done ...
Low bidder = quality work
