Agriculture Minister Pat Bell says he has talked to the owner of a Vanderhoof ranch who is faced with having their entire ranch herd slaughtered as a result of a link with Bovine Tuberculosis.

"I have assured the rancher that I will use my office to make certain that they receive all the assistance that they need " says Bell.

The rancher in question is facing the destruction of 47 cows, 2 bulls, 17 calves, some goats and a llama. The rancher said the Canadian Food Inspection Agency  wanted all animals on the farm destroyed "They   even wanted to destroy the two collies," says the Rancher, "But I said, No Sir... we stop there!”

The identity of the rancher is being withheld by Opinion250.

The Vanderhoof herd is part of the 470 cattle that are being destroyed in Alberta and British Columbia to combat the possible spread of the disease.

There is no other known method of controlling a possible spread other than destroying the herd that may have been in contact with the one affected animal found in Quebec.
