The Jury in the trial of Willie Pickton has reached a verdict.

Charged with the first degree murder of 6 women, the Jury has found the pig farmer  not guilty of First Degree murder,  but GUILTY of second degree murder in all six counts.

in the deaths of Sereena Abotsway,  Mona Wilson,  Andrea Joesbury, Marnie Frey,  Georgina Papin and  Brenda Wolfe.

Had Pickton been found Guilty of First degree murder,  it would  have meant an automatic  life sentence with no parole  for 25 years.  Now that the verdict is of  second degree murder, it is still a life sentence but there are options for parole eligibility.

Some members of the families are not happy with the  verdict. Some screamed  as the verdict was  read.  "There is a lot of anger" said one, "The families are devastated" said another.

The jury reached it’s verdict after more than nine days of deliberation, nearly a year since the jury had been selected on December 12th.

Pickton was arrested in February of 2002.  The trial lasted 10 months., during that time, 128 witnesses testified in this case, 98 of them called by the Crown, 30 by the Defence.

Pickton faces a second endictment  for the murder of 20 other women.

Kill one person or twenty six it is still life imprisonment. Concurrently not consectutively. Ain't this a great country?
On the Globe and Mail website you ain't allowed to make a comment. Gotta write a letter to the editor. Small town thinking? Or different set of rules? Jest wunderin'.
So I gather it is second degree because he demonstrated that he has a depraved mind....
Not suprised at all by the verdict.
First degree murder is a hard one to prove, so 2nd degree murder will have to do.
I don't think there was any doubt he did it,but I don't think he acted alone through it all.
He is a mental midget and I seriously doubt he could have killed that many by himself with out screwing up and getting caught!
Seems we are still missing some of the story??
Just like the Kennedy assassination. Could remain with us fer as looooong time. Conspiracy theories, ya know.
On the same vein, I betcha the guy in the cement truck who is to have alleged to have killed those five people in Cow town, gets less of a penalty than Conrad Black will. Betcha! Why? Cause life is cheap. Dough, ain't. Wait and see. Poor cynical me.
Big media have not been reporting botched evidence gathering by RCMP parasites. from the beginning those clowns refused to investigate accusations of brutality against women, coming from the Pickton farm. When they finally put down their do-nuts and executed a search warrant, they corrupted every piece of remaining evidence.

So who was the Solicitor General when this tax dollar bonfire was going on? It was Rich Coleman, a retired RCMP goof. When will we learn that cops are sucking our blood? When will you bozos learn that cops rarely investigate crime reports, unless a target is named. In the thick of early disclosures of gross RCMP negligence, Coleman allowed those worthless sacks of unflushed sewage to record ANY arrest - every where same was obviously false or if charges were not registered - on the Corrections Department database (cornet).

Big Media's whitewash of typical RCMP sloth is disgraceful. Why have a free press if scribes regurgitate cop spin vomit?

Don't blame the jury; don't blame the prosecutors; don't blame the defence attornies; don't blame the judge; blame cops.
Truth has a rather bizarre way of looking at things, (correct me if I am wrong, but I think he dislikes cops? :-) he is right about one thing.
The cops DID screw this up by doing squat for so long even though they had information that pointed toward the Pickton pig farm.
So far, nobody has come up with a reasonable explanation why they were standing around picking their noses for so long on this case.
There were a number of street workers that gave them information but they chose to ignore it.
It never should have taken them as long as it did to make some progress.
When the story of this crime is finally told, the RCMP is not going to look very good!
I can't help but think that if they were not hookers and dopers, they might have mattered a little more.
Blame VPD, not the rcmp...they were there to execute a search warrant for weapons when it all hit the fan. If it wasn;t for the diligence of the rcmp pickton would still be killing sex trade workers. Truth, keep talking....you never cease to amaze me how whacked you are.
Quite right Imorg....that should have read VPD.
My mistake,...have RCMP on the brain lately!
Let's see now. 2nd degree murder, maybe parole after 2 or 3 years. But then he gets double time off for time served already. Guess we will owe him days. Justice for all methinks. Just some more than others.
Hmm, i'm confused, RCMP or VPD, Maple Ridge is not in VPD's jurisdiction , is it?
women were sex trade workers from vpd jurisdiction and reported missing in that jurisdiction. Maple ridge is rcmp. Picton farm is in Port coquitlam - rcmp.
RCMP were in the process of executing a warrant for unregistered weapons on the pickon property when the rcmp member found ID of one of the missing, checked the name on police data banks and the rest is history.
Exactly Imorg...it was a fluke and a damn lucky one at that.
Yup. Not denying that. There are many instances in police work where you just get lucky.
