Prince George, B.C - An ice jam on the Nechako River is causing some  flooding  on the south side of the  river. No homes threatened at this point, but the  parks are off limits, as is the boat launch.

The asphalt path behind the offices of Winton Global  is  under  water ( see photo at right).

Barriers have been set up to  prevent people from  going to the boat launch, Cottonwood Island Park, and Kiwanis Park.

Prince George Fire Chief, Jeff Rowland  is in charge of emergency measures and says there is no  current need for worry, but  the situation is being monitored.  "The water levels are going up and down" says  Rowland.

The jam at this point seems to be  just east of  the  boat launch on River Road through to the Fraser River.

The ice on the Nechako River is  piling up.

Many years ago, my dad used to work for CP Rail. One of his "jobs" was to clear ice jams by blowing them up. i wonder if that will happen or will a thaw be used instead.
I was wondering the same thing? I would have thought a copter with a few sticks of dynamite would have been deployed by now. Maybe PG hasn't planned for an ice jam flood?
Going with the current political thinking, I think that we should fly in an expert from, say, Vancouver, to assess the situation, and give us advice. Of course it will have to wait until city council has time to debate the matter.
