This holiday season, British Columbians have the opportunity to sample a wide range of products from all over the province
ranging from Peace Country turkeys, award winning Okanagan and Vancouver Island wines, and Kootenay grown Christmas trees.

Buying local also supports the Province’s efforts to reduce greenhouse gases by reducing the distance food travels from the farm to the consumer.
B.C. has a wide range of locally grown and produced foods available and this diversity is reflected in the fact that B.C. is the leading producer of blueberries, cranberries, grapes, sweet cherries, raspberries and finfish in Canada. The province is also second when it comes to the production of floriculture, nursery products, greenhouse tomatoes, greenhouse peppers, greenhouse cucumbers, mushrooms, apples, ginseng and shellfish.
“As the Minister of Agriculture and Lands, I have the opportunity to tour farms across the province that produce an extraordinary variety of crops,” said Bell, Prince George North MLA. “I encourage you to have a very B.C. Christmas this year and put locally-grown products on your dinner table this holiday season.”By supporting B.C. grown and produced food products, communities across the province are able to benefit not only economically but also socially. A recent report by the University of Northern B.C. has shown that farmer’s markets contribute $118.5 million annually to the provincial economy.
