Prince George, B.c. - Before he even gets to start on his work breaking down the ice jam on the Nechako River Paul Laplante of Eco Technologies is under a gag order.
Scott Bone with the City of Prince George Emergency Operations Committee says that no contractor is able to talk to the media unless they have cleared it first with Don Schaffer with the City of Prince George.
Opinion250 was asked to E-mail a request to talk to Laplante .
The argument given Opinion250 was that the City didn’t want news people bothering contractors. We pointed out that Eco Technologies’ equipment will not arrive in the city for at least the next four days, how then could we be a bother?
Opinion250 has been in contact with Laplante’s company since a week ago and has built up a relationship with him. We had talked that if he came to town, Meisner would like to go to dinner with him, possibly learn something about removing ice from ice jammed rivers. There were, after all, more then 35 ice jams in 2005 in the province and if he successfully breaks the ice down, then this might be used in the province as well.
But then there is this “Gag order” which prohibits Laplante from talking to us under his contract with the city. Meisner says his dinner conversation will have to stick to French lessons and the weather.
