Prince George, B.C. - The waer supply for the City of Prince George is just fine, says Marco Fornari, the Manager of Utilities for the City.

At a news conference this afternoon at pumping station 605, Fornari told reporters  the ice jam and  floods have not had any impact on  the water supply.  ( click on photo of Marco Fornari at right for video of  explanation)   He says there has been a persistant rumour that the water supply had been impacted, but that is  not the case says Fornari.

Fornari says  the  pump station 605, which provides most of the City with water is above  the 200 year flood plain  and  extra precautions were taken with the installation of some gabion dikes, "just in case".

Fornari says  pumping stations  further downstream  are being used to  pump  ground water back into the river.

Pump station 605 draws from an aquifer right underneith the CN Rail Yard site. I guess that contamination from flooding would take time to seep through to the aquifer?
Mr. Eagelone... PW605 draws from an different aquifer quite a ways upstream from the CNR yards... that was one of the benefits to the Fishtrap project, if I recall correctly.

I suspect that any possibly contaminating products from the yards will move downstream before they present in the "CNR" aquifer... which will probably appeal to those who think that the answer to pollution is dilution.

Blessings...
