Quesnel Begins Budget Talks

The city of Quesnel has begun deliberations on the 2008 budget in that community. The council has been presented with a budgeted tax levy of $12,126,000 which represents an increase in spending of $452,000 or a real tax increase of 3.9%. That figure however is before the council has had an opportunity to set priorities and decide what expenditures will be made.
Quesnel has seen its assessment grow by 17.3 %; some came by way of market value increases along with new construction.
$164,000 of the preliminary budget comes as a result of inflationary and Labour agreements; the remaining $337,000 of supplemental spending is being brought forward for council’s consideration. .
The first budget meeting was held on Monday the next one goes tonight.
