Prince George, B.C, - The state of emergency declared in Prince George when the Nechako River spilled its banks in mid December will soon be over.

The declaration will not be renewed when it expires at 1 p.m. Thursday February 14th. That will mean the declaration was in place for 66 days.

Emergency Operations Chief, Jeff Rowland says river levels are normal now, and Ministry of Environment and Emergency operations staff will conduct twice weekly flights over both rivers for the short term to monitor changing conditions.   Basically,   it’s believed the warmed temperatures   and the open channels   have eliminated any immediate threat of flooding.

Rowland says people will be able to go into their homes to assess the damage, but it is unlikely the homes are habitable.

The cost of dealing with the ice jam and emergency response has hit $4.33 million while costs for recovery activities have now reached nearly $32 thousand dollars.

There is a community information meeting this evening, it will be the last meeting of its type.    The meeting is set for 7 p.m. at the Civic Centre  room 103.  Future sessions will be more focused on those who have been directly impacted by the flood.

I am sure the warm weather has helped end this flood now maybe it will help with snow removal. City Hall should be ashamed of the worst snow removal we have had in 20 years. I hope those re-running in November can explain this poor service.
You are absolutely right Big Shooter. I have lived in the same place for over 30 years and this has to be the worst year for snow removal. When the road does get plowed the blade on the truck is left about 4" over the road and all mailboxes are plowed in. Corners are left narrow and corners are banked with snow so you can't see see on coming traffic. Ex-mayor Moffat's comment "Why worry about it, the snow will melt in April" does not apply here.
Are we saving money to pay for the Mayor's world trips or for the Olympic tours? Can hardly wait for election time in November.
I think the folks with the city should be applauded for a job well done with this years snow removal. I think if you compare us to any city in western Canada of this size, we probably are the tops in snow removal. Not very many cities get the snow out of the residential areas as quick as PG does. You have to consider the amount of snow we can get at one time compared to other cities. Saskatoon, Regina and such do not get the amount of snow as we do by a long ways, yet the residential areas in those cities are lucky to get the snow cleaned more than once all winter.

Again- TOP JOB
Speaking of emergency, any one know the whereabouts of that there satellite headed our way? If it crashes on us it will put us on the map and maybe take us off the map too. Look into it.
Oh Harbinger I actually read about that not too long ago and they said it was going to miss the earth by such and such a distance...I posted it on facebook. I'll go see if I can find it.
(insert red face here) Harbinger I just was watching The National and they talked about the spy satellite (what you were talking about not what I thought you were talking about) They said they will use a ship in the northern pacific ocean to shoot the satellite and shatter it into pieces and the chance of hitting it is pretty high. Hopefully!!!
