The first of three job fairs participated in by the Skilled Labour Recruitment & Retention Program for February and March of this year yielded very positive results for both Prince George employers and Mackenzie workers.

Information on job postings from 14 Prince George employers was brought to Mackenzie via a job fair organized by Abitibi-Bowater and the District of Mackenzie. High attendance and enthusiasm at the two day weekend event led to the collection of 37 resumes and the distribution of dozens of company brochures and specific job postings.

Resumes were collected in the following categories –

  • Apprentices (3)
  • Millwrights (5)
  • Electrical / Controls (2)
  • Office-Related (4)
  • First Aid / Safety (3)
  • Pipefitters (1)
  • Heavy Equipment Operators (8)
  • Supervisory (1)
  • IT (3)
  • Welding / Fabrication (2)
  • Labourers (5)

At the end of February, Prince George will be represented in a highly targeted job fair throughout the vehicle and steel manufacturing areas of Ontario then in mMid March  there is the local CNC / UNBC job fair.

The skilled labour recruitment and retention program is a partnership between Initiatives Prince George and the Prince George Chamber of Commerce.
