Prince George, B.C. - The  time  may  have arrived to deal with  a gap in the dollars being spent on  infrastructure, and what should be spent.

Currently, about  $9 million is spent on maintenance of infrastructure, but,  reports and studies suggest that amount should be in the $13 million dollar range.

Frank Blues, Asset Manager for the city of Prince George, says  there is a computer program that can be used to help  define how much money should be spent   if you want a piece of infrastructure to last  50 or 80 years,  and he says  the varying ages of  infrastructure in Prince George would indicate there may be some (watermain for example)  facilities that could last as long as 100 years.  "We will have to pick  realistic numbers for our community  in order to get an accurate picture"says Blues.

Bob Radloff, head of Development Services says in the case of infrastructure, "It's the iceburg beneath the waves we are concerned about."

Still, there will need to be some financial  discussions on how  the $4 million gap can be  addressed, perhaps through an infrastructure  reserve.

We should name all our infrastructure after corporations and let them pay for it. ;)
Hey I like that, how about "CN Sewage"?
It may be fitting after all the crap we
hear from them. "Canfor Water Mains"...
they already have a head start. "Chicago
Blower City Hall"????(I'm sure someone can
come up with a better line on this than I)
